Judge's comment: The verse is called kaibun in Japanese, in which you get the same phrase from which ways you read, from the beginning or from the end. It is read: karuku ganbaru banga kuruka. The literal translation of the verse is: The night Translated by Ban'ya Natsuishi and Jack Galmitz As for the image, the use of different papers and watercolor-like wash are effective. The figure in the center expresses well the nature of this haiku. |
