| Judge's comment:Good snap shot. Since the haiku is good and is all about the old woman, the photograph should have been taken as a portrait. To be a good portrait photo, the background needs some workings. Horizontal line of the wall panelling is rather disturbing. Much simplier background is preferable. Flashing the face from the front makes the eyes rather flat and uninteresting. Lighting should be from a little sideway. Even black and white photograph is effective in this case, for it is the eyes and face that are important, not so much of what she wears, which convey the content of the haiku verse. |
